Istražuju se unutarregionalni efekti inovacionih inputa na inovacione autpute, kao i efekti inovacionih autputa na ekonomske performanse. Istraživanje prostornih efekata predstavlja poseban doprinos rada i odnosi se na analizu uticaja inovacionih inputa susednih regiona na inovacione inpute i-tog regiona, uticaja inovacionih inputa susednih regiona na inovacione autpute i-tog regiona, uticaja inovacionih autputa susednih regiona na inovacioni autput i-tog regiona i uticaja inovacionih autputa susednih regiona na ekonomske performanse i-tog regiona. Meru inovacionih inputa predstavlja nivo zaposlenih sa tercijarnim obrazovanjem u sektoru nauke i tehnologije, inovacionih autputa broj patentnih prijava, dok su ekonomske performanse merene nivoom produktivnosti. U kontekstu unutarregionalnih efekata, nalazi istraživanja potvrđuju da postoji snažan pozitivan uticaj inovacionih inputa na inovacione autpute i da inovacioni autputi imaju pozitivan uticaj na ekonomske performanse. Rezultati prostorne analize omogućavaju i nijansiranije uvide. Prvo, inovacioni inputi susednih regiona, posredno, putem efekata prelivanja, imaju pozitivan uticaj na inovacione inpute i-tog regiona. Drugo, potvrđuje se da inovacioni inputi susednih regiona, posredno putem efekata prelivanja imaju negativan uticaj na inovacione autpute i-tog regiona. Treće, inovacioni autputi susednih regiona se ne pojavljuju kao determinanta koja ima uticaj na inovacione autpute i-tog regiona. Četvrto, potvrđuje se da inovacioni autputi susednih regiona, posredno putem efekata prelivanja, imaju blago negativan uticaj na nivo produktivnosti i-tog regiona, najverovatnije usled viših stopa rasta produktivnosti u inovativnijim regionima. Rezultati istraživanja pružaju nove uvide teoriji regionalne ekonomije i inovacija i poruke ekonomskim politikama, jer ukazuju na kompleksne odnose evropskih regiona u kontekstu kreiranja i difuzije inovacija i uticaja inovacija na ekonomske rezultate. The paper analyzes the relationships between innovation and economic performance at the NUTS2 regional level in the European Union, both within regions and through interregional spillovereffects. It examines intra-regional effects of innovation inputs on innovation outputs, as well asthe effects of innovation outputs on economic performance. The research on spatial effectsrepresents a unique contribution to the paper and focuses on the analysis of the impact ofinnovation inputs from neighboring regions on the innovation inputs of region i, the impact ofinnovation inputs from neighboring regions on the innovation outputs of region i, the impact ofinnovation outputs from neighboring regions on the innovation outputs of region i, and the impactof innovation outputs from neighboring regions on the economic performance of region i.Innovation inputs are measured by the level of employment with tertiary education in the scienceand technology sector, innovation outputs are measured by the number of patent applications, andeconomic performance is measured by productivity levels. In the context of intra-regional effects,the research findings confirm a strong positive impact of innovation inputs on innovation outputs,and that innovation outputs have a positive impact on economic performance. The results of thespatial analysis provide more nuanced insights. First, innovation inputs from neighboring regionsindirectly, through spillover effects, positively influence the innovation inputs of region i. Second,it is confirmed that innovation inputs from neighboring regions indirectly, through spillovereffects, negatively affect the innovation outputs of region i. Third, the innovation outputs ofneighboring regions do not appear as a determinant influencing the innovation outputs of regioni. Fourth, it is confirmed that the innovation outputs of neighboring regions indirectly, throughspillover effects, have a mild negative impact on productivity level, of region i, most likely due tohigher productivity growth rates in more innovative regions.
